National Coming Out Day
Hello Sparkies! National Coming Out Day is almost here. Celebrated on October 11th for over 30 years, it’s a day that honors the bravery of LGBTQ+ individuals who decide to come out and be honest about who they are and who they love.
Whether you identify as LGBTQ+ or you’re an ally,
celebrating National Coming Out Day is an important way to raise the visibility of our communities, support co-workers and friends and build a legacy of acceptance for youth and underserved communities of all kinds. For some, coming out is no longer a big deal—it’s a simple matter of correcting someone’s assumptions about you, your partner, a friend or family member.
For others, coming out is still a very, very BIG deal.
The very real fear of facing discrimination, bullying or judgement can cause LGBTQ+ people to stay “in the closet,” struggling with anxiety while they strive to hide an important part of their identities.
With over 200 anti-LGBTQ+ initiatives on state ballots this year, every “out” individual and their advocates need to make their voices heard so we can take a stand against discrimination and oppression.
